This art piece, Clowns of the Sea, Common Puffins, depicts puffins at play in the North Atlantic. This piece was displayed and sold in the 19th Annual International Marine Art Exhibition show at the Mystic Maritime Gallery in Mystic, Connecticut, in the Fall of 1998. The technique is reverse scrimshaw with accent colors on black water buffalo horn. Accent colors added to the reverse scrim process is an extremely difficult technique, in most cases. The picture below is of the scrimshaw piece before it was mounted on a hand polished ebony base.
